we have various jobs that require our valued volunteers to assist us with, if you could lend us a hand – please get in touch:
Café Volunteer – Monday 12:30-2:00pm
Social Hub Volunteers – Thursdays 1:00-3:00pm
Creative Collective Hosts – Fridays 1:00-3:00pm
Evening Reception Volunteer – Weekday evenings 6:00-8:30pm
If you can spare a couple of hours, why not help your local community run charity by volunteering with us! We are here to improve the health and wellbeing of all local people.
We have a variety of volunteer roles – we have gym instructors, reception, roller skating and also helping with classes such as PenActive (our youth club for older people – we currently require volunteers to help us serving post class drinks for a few of our classes at the centre – if this sounds like you – please get in touch! )
We offer various other roles for any age volunteers. We regularly host Duke of Edinburgh volunteers too.

Volunteering for:
Monday drinks 12.30-2.30pm (2hrs – this could be a couple of volunteers to cover this job we are happy to discuss )
At the moment we would love someone to help serve drinks in the cafe for various clubs that run on a Monday. ( Walking Netball, Chair Fitness and Happy Vibes Cafe every 2 weeks )

Skate the Boundary! 1 mile = 25 laps of the hall
Choose from the Penistone, Barnsley or Thurgoland Boundary walks distance (You can upgrade as you go)
We’ve created a map that is displayed in the centre. Add your named skate and let’s see how many miles we can clock?!
You will be provided with a clicker counter at the start of each skate session you attend, so you can easily clock your laps… A total miles of all participants will also be calculated.
It’s £1 to enter – If you reach your chosen distance you will be entered into a prize draw for a free family skate voucher. (up to 5 skaters)

Teen skating – grab your mates and come and skate! Choose your fave tunes from Spotify.
Join us on the third Saturday of every month from 7-9pm. It costs £6 per skater including skate/blade hire if needed. We have adult sizes up to 14, so you can be sure we’ll have a pair to fit!
You may be eligible for discounted sessions if you are on certain benefits. Check your eligibility for the Penistone leisure card and to apply.

Coming up on Thursday 11th May (twice monthly)
Come and learn to sew / improve your sewing skills in my Thursday evening lessons. My lessons are relaxed and you work at your own pace. All levels of sewing are covered and as yet, I have not come across a technique I am unable to teach. There will be plenty of laughter and chatter involved, so please bring a sense of humour.
Lessons are twice a month on a Thursday, 6:30pm to 9pm, in the cafe at The Hub, @thehubcommunitycafe ( Penistone Leisure Centre ). Bring yourself a mug, as there is free tea, coffee and biscuits. The Leisure Centre has plenty of free off-road parking available.
Lessons are £12.00 per session
I will bring my haberdashery stall with me for those much needed essentials, however if there is something you are interested in (that is for sale on my website), then email or text me before 3pm on Thursday and I will bring it along.
If you don’t have a sewing machine, then I have machines available and these are £2.00 per machine for the evening and have to be pre-booked. Go to:

We are a community Hub; a place, space and face for ANYONE to come and visit.
We are a cafe running alongside Penistone Leisure Centre serving confectionary, ice creams, hot and cold drinks, breakfasts, Brunches and lunches. Take away available too!
We buy local! Offering excellent quality meat, fruit, veg, bread and bakery items from Penistone Fruit & Veg , John Crawshaws Butchers, The Market Oven , The Cottage Bakery and Artisan Bakes Ltd. …and our menu continues to offer good affordable dishes.
We cater for children’s birthday parties each Saturday AND offer a self catering option every Sunday
We offer a Rent a Crate scheme to small local businesses to showcase their products to our customers in our cafe setting Sarah Catterall Contemporary Jewellery Rosiebcreates,Valentines Belgian Chocolates and Baked By Shell
We have games, a chalkboard, children’s colouring sheets, magazines, books and a local radio station playing… All for your entertainment.
We are full of nostalgia, memories, and we are UNIQUE
We employ local people and offer training and development opportunities to all staff and volunteers
An outside seating area for walkers, dogs and cyclists is underway with the support from our community.
We do ALOT!… and I realised that this afternoon as I finish up my shift in the rare peace and calm of an empty Penistone Leisure Centre (whilst preparing for this afternoons party!) more info about our parties here.
