Massive Thank You to Our Maintenance Volunteers!

March 31, 2021 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We had a volunteer day on Sunday last weekend to get the centre ready for partial reopening for some things from the 12th April. We had a fantastic turnout and achieved a lot of ‘finishing off jobs’ (working on our own little areas in order to maintain social distancing of course…)

One of our volunteers took it a step further… Check out Liz looking glam in her super safe haz-mat suit! Just kidding- she was using a resin paint to seal the Studio/Cafe’s floor!

We also have regular maintenance volunteers who do jobs weekly to upkeep and maintain the centre and grounds. We are so grateful to these brilliant people who give their time to help us make the Leisure Centre a lovely place to be!

If you’d like to join the team, and are handy with a paintbrush or more, we’ll be holding another volunteer day on Sunday 11th April to finish some more jobs off before reopening! Please email [email protected] for more info.

Increased Hours At The Gym!

August 23, 2020 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We are increasing the Gym’s opening hours from w/c 24th August, as follows-

  • Mondays 10am-12noon & 6-8pm
  • Tuesdays 6-8pm
  • Wednesdays 10am-12noon and 6-8pm
  • Thursdays 6-8pm
  • Fridays 10am-12noon and 6-8pm

We hope to continue to increase the opening hours of the gym as we get acclimatised to the new ‘normal’. We are also working on a way to be able to sell weekly/monthly passes for the gym too, so please bear with us.

You can book your slot below. Please note that all gym places must be booked in advance (strictly no walk-ins on the day) as this is to ensure we don’t go over our limit of 6 gym users in the gym at a time.

The opening of the gym for increased hours relies on a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time to provide this asset to the community! Could you contribute?

In return for a 2 hour volunteering slot per week, you would be able to claim a week’s free gym pass too! Or if you are a qualified gym instructor who is willing to volunteer your time to help perform inductions etc, you can have 24/7 access to the gym for your own training. Win, win!

Hurrah! Some More Funding! But Plenty More to Raise!

March 8, 2020 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We’re really pleased to say that our application for some more funding from South Yorkshire Community Foundation has been successful! We’ve been granted £5,000 towards flooring in the new rooms created by the renovation work from the ‘Mark Dransfield and Deborah Holmes Charitable Trust’ and the ‘Liz and Terry Bramall Philanthropy Catalyst Fund’

We are grateful to the above named individuals for their kind contributions! This money means we will be able to make the new rooms safe and serviceable for many years to come.

We are still a long way away from having enough money to fund all areas of the refurbishment and are busy filling in more grant applications and thinking of ways to fundraise! Could you help us? We’d love to hear from you!

We are currently fundraising for our ‘Health and Wellbeing Cafe’ with a crowdfunder via Aviva. Will you benefit? Imagine a nice place to sit whilst your children skate (and lovely big windows into the hall so you can watch them!). Imagine a friendly and welcoming ‘board games cafe’ where you can meet new friends! Imagine a healthy hot meals cafe for older people to meet and socialise after using the sports facilities? Imagine a ‘bat and chat’ table tennis session with space for a nice coffee and cake afterwards! And more!

Please pledge as much as you can if you think you’d benefit from any of these things (or have any suggestions for anything else we can do in the cafe space!) We’ll only get the money if we successfully reach our £3,000 target. So we need as much help to SHARE this project and reach the goal (which currently stands at £160…)

Helpers Needed for This Weekend!

March 2, 2020 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

Our busy builders have nearly finished another room! The new Skate Store is going to be the room on the left as you come into reception (what used to be the gents toilets/showers)! This will be where you pick up your skates and also where volunteers can work on skate maintenance.

Can you help on Saturday 7th March between 10am-4pm to paint the empty room? We need maybe 4 painters to just get the room given a fresh coat of paint!

Or on Sunday 8th March between 10am-4pm we need one handy person to help our volunteer joiners to take down and put back up the shelves that were in the office holding the skates.

Can you help? Let us know by emailing [email protected] or calling/texting 07526 253100 or by dropping us a message on social media.

Great News! A Grant from Penistone Ward Alliance…

February 14, 2020 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

…Of £4,648.30 to go towards paint, shelving and flooring for the newly refurbished areas of the Leisure Centre!

A massive ‘thank you’ to the councillors who believe in the benefit that our project will bring to the community. We appreciate your backing!

Great news, and just in time for our Volunteer Session to paint the new Gym Room next weekend! Can you spare a few hours next weekend (Sat 22nd/Sun 23rd Feb) to make us look (more!) beautiful?!

Click ‘Interested’ or ‘Going’ on the Facebook Event Here, to help us get word out, and to let us know if you can help!

If you can’t help us by painting, please help us by SHARING!
