Thanks Kirsty!

One of our Trustees, Kirsty Salmon has come to the end of her 3 year stint with us and is moving on to other things.

Kirsty has been a huge part of the team at Penistone Leisure Centre, bringing her efficiency to the role of secretary and keeping us organised. Kirsty has done our payroll for years and helped with finances. She has been one of the main organisers of many events like the Summer Fair, several Halloween and Christmas parties and a lot of holiday activities as well as running skating sessions.

We have hugely valued her support, ideas and all her hard work and will miss her hugely. We wish her well in everything she goes on to do!

THANKS KIRSTY!

…and as a little add-on – does anyone out there feel like a new challenge? Kirsty was one of the many people who started as a centre user, became a volunteer and ended up as a Trustee. If you could help us with any part of what Kirsty did, we’d love to hear from you!

Fairtrade madness

We had great fun at the Mad Hatter’s Skating Fair Trade Tea Party!

Huge thanks to Pete from Bank View café again, for not only providing the food but also for staying to help serve it all! Thanks also to Longley farm for their delicious cream and cream cheese and to all our volunteers who made it such a success – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Reception and gym volunteers update

December 10, 2016 by Rachel Gibbons Leave a Comment

We asked last week for a reception volunteer for Mondays and have now filled that space. A huge thanks to Julie, please say hello to her when you come in next week! However, we still need someone on reception on Wednesday and Thursday – please talk to Martyn if you are interested or call him on 07717 222201.

We also need someone to cover the gym after Christmas on Wednesdays 10am -12 and Fridays 6-8pm. You don’t have to be a gym instructor for that, just reliable and responsible. We have recently discovered from our insurers that we do not need a gym instructor in every session, as long as the people in those sessions have already been inducted. Again, please contact Martyn if you can help.

Halloween Party Photos and Thanks

November 4, 2016 by Rachel Gibbons Leave a Comment

s-fancy-dress-paradeI had a great time at the Halloween party – so many brilliant costumes it was very hard to choose the best, everyone joining in with the games, making crafts and of course eating all the Mummy pizzas and Frankenstein cakes. Let us know what your best bit was by leaving a comment here or on the
Halloween Party page on the website.

s-thanks-to-jackie-and-nikkis-making-glitter-bats-with-judeHuge thanks to all the extremely hard working volunteers – Nikki and Kirsty in the kitchen, Jude doing crafts, Jayne on the camera and in the kitchen, Merry on pizzas and general help, Matthew on music and some more camera work. Special thanks to Jackie who was the force behind the whole party – wonderful cake maker, scary decorator extraordinaire and general organiser. Also thanks to everyone else who spotted something that needed doing and did it – we couldn’t do it without so many people willing to muck in and lend a hand.

Thanks also to Ron, Pat, Esther, Lisa, Becky, Amanda, Elka, Lucy and June for running skating sessions in the rest of half term.

s-relay-changeover-3s-party-food-2 The Halloween Party page has loads more photos than this post – so click through to see yourself at your scary best. Feel free to copy/download the photos to show your friends!

Huge thanks to summer skating volunteers

October 4, 2016 by Rachel Gibbons Leave a Comment

We ran a massive 39 skating sessions over the summer with up to 3 volunteers in each one, adding up to around 400 volunteer hours. Penistone Leisure Centre is run for the community and we are pleased to have so many people from our community involved in running it. In particular, our thanks this summer go to Jackie, Jude, Ron, Debbie, Dave, Merry, Simon, Lucy, Natalie, Lisa, Becky, Nikki, Amie, June and Esther.

The skating sessions have been enjoyed by hundreds of children over the summer, especially on some of the wet, horrible days we’ve had. Sessions still continue in term time on Wednesdays (4-5:45pm), Fridays (8-10pm for school years 7-10), Saturdays (12-2pm) and Sundays (10am-12). If you can help out, even very occasionally, please email Rachel or text on 07341 300259 – new volunteers are always welcome.

As an extra thanks to our volunteers we have introduced party cards, which are a bit like a coffee shop loyalty card – every time you volunteer, the date gets marked on it and 12 sessions means you can book a free party for your child (or yourself!) So if you volunteer once a month, you get a free party each year. This is, of course, in addition to your children having a free session when you volunteer. We have backdated the cards to the start of the summer holiday so you might already be on your way to a party!

Thanks everyone!
