Friday 9th June ( usually the first Friday of the month – date change due to staff holidays )

Children are welcome from 5-7pm, and are £1. Adults are £3.

Come and meet fellow gamers, and try out our selection of games – everything from Team 3 to Wingspan, favourites like Catan and Ticket to Ride, or family classics like Scrabble and Cluedo. There will be volunteers on hand to get you started if you’re not sure what to play, and other people to join in with.

Your entry price includes access to as many of our board games as you would like to play for the evening and we have drinks/snacks/cake available to buy from the café. You can book here or pay on the door.

Arrive before 7pm to order your pizza and/or chips. Two slices of pizza for £3, Bowl of chips £1.50.

Last entry is at 8:30pm, as reception is only open until 9pm, and we need to be finished by 10pm.

You may be eligible for discounted sessions if you are on certain benefits. Check your eligibility for the Penistone leisure card and apply.

PenActive is back from 8th June!

We are really pleased to say that PenActive will restart at Penistone Leisure Centre from Tuesday 8th June at 1:30-3:30pm.

PenActive is our ‘Youth Club for Older People’! The session is aimed at people aged 60+ and is a mix of social time and activities to keep you fit and healthy. The gym is open for an exclusive 60+ session too, which is included in the PenActive entry price of £3.

The sessions generally start with a cuppa and a chat in the café, then on to an activity (we schedule different sessions each week) or, if you don’t fancy this week’s activity, there is access to the gym for a 50+ session with a gym instructor on hand from 2pm to help you if you need it. We have table tennis tables, and badminton available too, so there are always alternative activities on offer. Past activities have included- Walking Hockey, Boxercise, Chair Aerobics, Roller Skating, Dancing, Pilates, and more!

The first session is a ‘welcome back’ session. We won’t schedule an activity for this session, but we will have a catch up, and go through the way sessions will have to operate whilst Covid restrictions are still in place. The gym will be open for people who have already had a gym induction, and if you haven’t- we will be able to get you booked in for one for you.

We have plans for the following weeks to put on Walking Netball, a Guided Walk, Modified HIIT and Chair Aerobics sessions (not necessarily in that order).

We are on the look out for a chatty and fun volunteer to come along and work with existing volunteers with this session, so if this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you! You can book your PenActive session via our website here– or just pay when you arrive and we will take your details then for track and trace purposes. In line with current government guidelines, masks must be worn inside the Leisure Centre unless you are exercising or eating/drinking.

What’s Coming Up at PenActive?

We’ve got a cracking few weeks lined up for all the attendees of our ‘Youth Club for Older People!’.

Join us this Tuesday 15th October from 1:30-3:30pm for a Walking Football session and as usual there will be time to socialise with a cuppa and biscuit.

Next week on Tuesday 22nd October we have an informal tea dance session, so if you love Strictly, then come on down! Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner to bring, we have plenty of volunteers, and don’t worry… Ballgowns are optional(!)

Tuesday 29th October we have Penistone Swimming Pool booked (across the road from us at here at Penistone Leisure Centre). Please let us know if you’d like to attend this session as we are limited to 10 swimmers- you can give us a call on 07526 253100 to reserve your space!

Tuesday 5th November we have a community walk lined up with Hannah Burton!

Finding Your Way Back to Fitness- For Older People

There are so many reasons you can lose your fitness as you get older. Injury, illness, or just not being able to get out-and-about as much as you used to are just some of the reasons which can lead to feelings of isolation or being fed-up! If this sounds familiar, we have the perfect group for you!

PenActive is our ‘youth club for older people’! Who’s coming this Tuesday?

We have a brilliant session lined up, with Kelly (she’s loads of fun!) coming along to provide a session of low impact aerobics and mobility exercises. This really is suitable for anyone, as you can work to your own level and there is absolutely no pressure to do more than you can manage.

As always, the informal group is really friendly with plenty of time to socialise. It is facilitated by one of our wonderful volunteers Louise, with support from our volunteer gym instructor Alison (whose specialism is helping people who feel nervous/unsure about getting back into exercise!).

The group meets at Penistone Leisure Centre (Thurlstone Road, Penistone) on Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30pm. It is currently free of charge to attend thanks to funding from Penistone Area Council and BMBC (though we may have to start charging a small fee after Christmas when the funding runs out!)
