Meet Shell our Catering Manager for The Hub Cafe. She has big plans for our cafe… and has so many exciting ideas…
We are going to use the first week back to school in September to start creating and developing the space…
Please read on …
‘ Now that we have become a fully fledged cafe, open to the external public as well as the existing leisure centre customers, we would like to smarten the cafe space up for you all. Keeping it in keeping with the leisure centre theme and aligning with our community values and purpose, we will be giving it a good lick of paint along with some personal, themed and ‘quirky’ touches.
As a charitable organisation, we have to be really careful where to invest each and every penny making sure that you, as our community, benefit from these investments. This is where we need your help! You get to be a part of this too…the fun bits! We are looking for donations of any retro sports equipment, roller skates, badminton rackets, shuttle cocks, weights to be upcycled, photos of you ‘back in the day’ playing sports (ideally black and white or the ability to edit into black and white … that you are happy to be put on display), old leisure books or artwork, old school radio/cd player/record player or anything else that you think may be of interest. It has absolutely got to bring the old days of sports, leisure and community in to our new cafe space… I’m giving too much away here!
Other items out for request are; clean and rust free golden syrup and treacle tins of varying sizes, quirky bottles and jars, offcuts of ribbon and hessian, tester pots of paint, craft embellishments, small terracotta or brightly coloured pots and any offcuts of succulent or ever green house plants you can spare.
So, if you think that you have something hidden in the depths of your cellar or a dark corner of your loft, then we would very much appreciate you digging it out, taking a photo of it and emailing it to us at shell@penistoneleisurecentre.org.uk We ask that you do this before bringing anything down to the leisure centre for us as it would be great to make sure that it would be in keeping with the planned theme/style. We don’t want to take donations unnecessarily as we just don’t have storage space to do so. If for any reason we turn away from donation, please don’t be offended, it probably just wasn’t what we were looking for at this time.
The works at the cafe will take place from Friday 2nd September – Thursday 8th September and therefore donations will be greatly received at the leisure centre the week prior to this.
