We have a slight change to our PenActive class… previously we advertised the start date as the 6th of September. Due to our cafe refurbishment the class will actually start the week after on the 13th of September. We apologies… but our Community cafe will definitely be somewhere special for everyone !!

Aswell as the above class there will be others that will be effected by the refurbishment of the cafe. We will try our best to keep the disruption to your classes to a minimum. Keep an eye out on Facebook for updates or call the centre for updates tel. 01226 763949.

PenActive – upcoming activities

PenActive is a friendly sociable group who meet at Penistone Leisure Centre on Tuesdays at 1:30-3.30pm

Often having activities booked such as walking football – Walking Netball – SIlver Circuits and other fun activities.

As always you can do as much or as little as you like.

They work to everyone’s own ability. There’s always the gym, board games, refreshments and great company.

If you fancy joining us. Just pop down to the Penistone Leisure Centre on a Tuesday 1:30-3:30. Everyone’s welcome 😃

November and Decembers activities are;

16th Nov – Walking Football

23rd Nov – Boxing

30th Nov – Dodgeball

7th Dec Walking Netball

14th Dec – Xmas party

Thank you to the Huntsman for their kind donation to PenActive!

Our fantastic volunteer Louise has been fundraising for our ‘Youth Club for Older People- PenActive’ and has been given a donation from the brilliant Huntsman pub’s ‘Jar on the Bar’ of £65, which will be put towards paying for coaches to run different sessions each week.

Our PenActive group is a friendly session every Tuesday from 1:30-3:30pm which includes time to socialise with a cuppa and a snack as well as access to different sports facilities/sessions weekly. The group is aimed at helping those aged 60+ to keep fit and active as well as making friends. Every week we offer different activities which might be table tennis/badminton/gym one week, or Pilates, Zumba, Chair Fitness, Walking Football, etc another week! Why not ‘like’ our ‘Penactive’ page on facebook to be kept up to date with what’s coming up! The session costs £3 per person which includes a drink and biscuits etc.

Massive thank you to landlady Sam and the Huntsman team! The Huntsman is a fantastic local real ale pub and community venue just along the road from us in Thurlstone, with live music and delicious home made food served on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays- if you haven’t been before, it’s definitely worth a trip! We honestly can’t think of where you can find a better pie in the area!

PenActive is our ‘Youth Club for Older People’. It’s a session we have designed to bring people together to socialise and keep fit too. It’s every Tuesday at 1:30-3:30pm and is suitable for people aged 60+ who want to build/maintain their fitness in a friendly and supportive session. We charge £3 per session, and this money goes towards paying the instructors for the different sessions we offer each week, and towards room hire. Please TAG and SHARE this post with anyone you think may benefit from the sessions, as the group is always looking for new members.

Our fantastic volunteer Louise recently approached the local shops to see if anyone would be able to donate some refreshments to the group, to ensure our attendees are well looked after! We were delighted to receive donations of tea, coffee, biscuits, snacks etc from both Tesco and Penistone Co-op, which will keep even the thirstiest PenActivers satiated for months!

The social time which takes place over a cuppa and a snack is just as important as the physical exercise, as we’ve all been isolated more over the last year’s lockdown periods, and we know what a difference a chat can make.

Thank you Tesco and Co-op! And as always, a massive ‘thank you’ to the volunteers who make the session possible- Louise, Helen and Alison! You are all superstars.

New classes for September

Starting in September we have TWO new classes – Walking Netball and Chair Fitness

Walking Netball

Starts 6th September 2021

Mondays 11:45am – 12:45, £4

Walking Netball is a slower version of the game. It’s netball but at a walking pace so anyone can play, regardless of age or fitness level.

Sessions are run by coach Hannah Burton. It’s a fun and friendly team game, so why not come along and have a giggle with us!

Chair Fitness

Starts 6th September 2021 with Rachel Howard

Mondays 12:45 – 1:45, £4

Chair Fitness is a gentle exercise class adapted to suit less able people. Rachel is experienced in working with older or less able people to help them with fall prevention, core strength and general fitness.
