We’re very excited to announce that Penistone Leisure Centre ( Sporting Penistone ) have been chosen to participate in this year’s Co-op Local Community Fund!

The Co-op Local Community Fund supports projects across the UK, and once you’ve chosen Sporting Penistone as your charity to support, every time you buy selected Co-op branded products and services (remembering to use your membership card!), we’ll receive a donation!

Building works at the leisure centre

As you can see we have had a busy week of construction at the centre. We are keeping to schedule and working towards finishing the building works for our new storage facility at the end of August… the store will be a useful edition for all of our equipment. Another very important benefit will be the edition of a tuck shop in the skate store! Now, who doesn’t love a skate tuck shop?!

Penistone Leisure Centre has been lucky to receive some funding from the Sport England ‘Community Leisure Recovery Fund’, to help us get over the difficulties of the past year. As a condition of our funding, we are required to gather data from our centre users to help to make sure the correct support is available for Leisure facilities going forwards.

If you have visited the Leisure Centre since 1st August 2021 and are aged 16years + please help us by completing the 5 minute survey as detailed below.

Sport England and Barnsley Council are undertaking research to understand the participant experience of using public leisure centres and their activity habits.

Please note that this survey is completely confidential and all data is collected and processed in compliance with all data protection laws and the Market Research Society Professional Code of Conduct.  Responding to these questions is entirely voluntary and the answers that you provide will be presented in aggregate form, and not be linked back to you in any way. In accordance with GDPR, please be reassured that your personal details and individual answers will remain confidential and will not be passed to any other organisation.

Some of the questions in the survey will ask for your ethnicity and health data. This sensitive information about you is considered special category data. The lawful basis for collecting any special category data is your explicit consent to do so. Special category data is personal data that needs more protection because it is sensitive. Thank You Co-op!

We were delighted to receive the first payment from the Co-op Community Fund recently!

We applied to the Co-op’s Community Fund in order to buy some new equipment for our Gym! We received £1,454.93 which we are hoping to spend very soon!

Unfortunately, since lockdown there has been a huge increase in people buying gym equipment for home use, which has left a massive shortage in the market for commercial Gym Equipment! So, our Gym team, are currently looking for the right things to buy and as soon as we have them, we’ll be posting about it!

Huge thank you to the Co-op for your fantastic community program- it is so appreciated and it’ll be so nice to get some new stuff in the Gym! We have recently extended our Gym’s opening hours too- So why not sign up here. Once you have signed up, one of our Gym Instructors will contact you to arrange an induction and get you started on your fitness journey!

In the meanwhile, if you’d like to support Penistone Leisure Centre and you are a Co-op customer with a Members Card, then please log in to your online account and select us as your chosen charity. Then the Co-op will allocate your share of the community fund to us! The more Co-op Customers who do this, the better facilities we will be able to provide for the community of Penistone and surrounding Areas!

Crowdfunding Target Reached!!

On April 22nd our crowdfunding project, raising funds to equip the Health and wellbeing Café, closed and we are delighted to report that we reached our target of £3000 (we actually raised £3020 so a little added bonus!) It is humbling that at a time like this, hard for everyone in so many different ways, we have still had your support and can now plan how to spend the funds to set up this fantastic new facility that will be even more needed and appreciated when we are able to meet up again. We need to thank everyone who donated so generously, employees at Aviva who chose us as their charity donation and people who spread the word about the project. Thank you also to Barnsley Boost who match funded and also to the Lady Mayoress of Penistone for her kind contribution. The Aviva crowdfunding team have been very supportive and guided us through the process brilliantly.

We are so excited to have achieved this target and look forward to using the money to make the best possible café. Thank you so much.
