Over 50 and want to stay active and socialise? Then why not come along to PenActive? It’s Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30pm (no PenActive on Tuesday 18th Feb though, due to school hols!)
This week, PenActive attendees had a skating lesson from Rachel of Penistone Skate School! Lots of fun, and laughs all around. Some people discovered a talent they didn’t know they had, and others… Didn’t!
Next week’s planned activity is Boxing (Tues 11th Feb)! So why not come along and give it a go? There is a suggested donation of £3 (or whatever you can afford) to attend, which includes refreshments.
If you don’t fancy the activity we have planned for that week, do still come along- there are always alternative activities available- the gym is open for PenActive every week- table tennis, badminton and netball too! And if you’re not feeling like being active but you’d enjoy the sociable bit come along anyway- we have board games and dominoes and the kettle’s always on!
It’s that time again! Who’s coming to Adult Skate Disco?
Join us this Saturday 13th July from 7:30-10pm for a night of laughs, retro tunes, tuck shop snacks and disco lights!
Adult skate disco is a brilliance chance to let your hair down and pretend you’re a teenager again! So grab you mates and we’ll lend you skates!
The session is £5 and includes skate hire if needed. We have all sizes of skates and blades up to adult size 14, so rest assured we’ll have some to fit!

From today, we are cancelling the Tuesday fast skating session as so few people come.
On the other hand, our Saturday session is more popular than we can cope with! We are unfortunately having to turn people away or are asking them to wait in the cafe until other people leave and make space, as our safety limit is 50 skaters. It seems we need to change our sessions times.
The solution we are considering is to run a second weekend session, probably at 12-2pm on Sundays. However, for this to be possible we need people to come forward and volunteer to help out. I did a quick survey at Saturday skating and 14 people out of 23 said they could come to a Sunday session as an alternative to Saturday (5 no, 4 maybe). There were also 10 people who said they could volunteer to help in a session – thank-you very much if you were one of those people! However, to cover every week we need more volunteers.
A smooth running skate session needs 3 volunteers – one to sign people in, one to hand out skates and one in the tuck shop – and after the initial rush of people arriving, the volunteers can swap around and take time out to skate or have a cup of tea. If you volunteer, all your children get into the session for free and you get free drinks. A more experienced volunteer will show you what to do and we will over-staff sessions to start with.
