First aid

Places Available on Our First Aid Course!

September 19, 2019 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We are running an Emergency First Aid at Work and use of a Defibrillator (AED) course at Penistone Leisure Centre on Sunday 29th September from 8:30am-3pm.

We provide training free of charge to our volunteers, but have a few spaces left for external candidates at £40 per person (much cheaper than most other places). This training is certified (which meants you come away with a qualification and certificate) and provided by ERT Training. A light lunch and refreshments are provided.

Chris, the course leader is a firefighter and makes the course interesting and informative! There are only a couple of spaces left on the course, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

If you are interested in a place on the course, please contact Nikki on 07526 253100 or [email protected]

First aid and defibrillator training

June 8, 2017 by Rachel Gibbons Leave a Comment

We try to make sure we always have a first aider on duty when Penistone Leisure Centre is open, and so run regular ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ courses to train new volunteers. These are also available to anyone else in the area at a cost of £40.

As we have a defibrillator on site which is publicly available, and there are others in Penistone Town Centre and around the area, the course includes defibrillator training. This will show you how to restart someone’s heart in an emergency.  ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ is a recognised qualification which leads to a certificate and can be used for work, volunteering or so you could help friends and family in an emergency.

The course has been booked for Sunday 9th July from 9:30am-4pm. As before, this will be available free for Penistone Leisure Centre volunteers and will cost £40 for any other local people who wish to attend. It will include free lunch and drinks for everyone. We welcome new volunteers, who could then attend the first aid course for free!

Covered in the day is resuscitation (including the defibrillator), recovery position, choking, bleeding, burns and shock.

First aid course - resuscitating adultNow we have a defibrillator on site which is publicly available, would you like to know how to use it in an emergency? Would it also be useful to have a wider range of first aid skills? We have booked another day of ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’, which includes the use of the defibrillator we have at the centre. This is a recognised qualification which leads to a certificate and can be used for work, volunteering or so you could help friends and family in an emergency.

The course has been booked for Sunday 27th November from 8:30am-3pm. As before, this will be available free for Penistone Leisure Centre volunteers and will cost £40 for any other local people who wish to attend. It will include free lunch and drinks for everyone. We welcome new volunteers in exchange for a free first aid course!

Covered in the day is resuscitation (including the defibrillator), recovery position, choking, bleeding, burns and shock. The course is run by Jim Moll from Ecclesall first aid, who has run the course twice before at Penistone Leisure Centre.

Defibrillator at centre – please spread the word

August 26, 2016 by Rachel Gibbons Leave a Comment

You might have noticed the new bright yellow box in our entrance which houses a defibrillator. Our first aiders are trained in how to use it, but it is also available to anybody who needs it and is close enough to get it within a few minutes. A defibrillator restarts a person’s heart in the event of a heart attack or heart failure and is far more effective than chest compressions.

If you needed the defibrillator, you would go to Penistone Leisure Centre, call 999 and they would talk you through what to do.

The more people who know the defibrillator is there, the more likely it is that someone who needs it can be helped – so please spread the word.
