Sheep Trail
As you might have noticed there are a few concrete sites added in eight locations throughout Penistone. These will be the SHEEP TRAIL sites. It’s a mini version of the Elephant Trail that you might have followed in Sheffield. We are very happy that we will be one of the eight sites. The perfect stop for a cuppa or an ice cream in our cafe @thehubcommunitycafe

Artists are creating new works to celebrate Penistone’s past and present as part of Barnsley Council‘s Principal Towns project. – One of the projects includes a series of stone carvings of sheep, each in a pose which references something Penistone is known for. The Penistone Sheep trail is by the sculptor Michael Disley. Please have a look at the sculptor’s other work here: Sculptor Michael Disley The other is based on the creation of a set of hallmarks reflecting Penistone’s rich heritage.
The works will add to the public realm in Penistone further enhancing its attractiveness to local shoppers and visitors. It’s a great way to encourage walking and exploring our town on foot! We hope to see lots of selfies and pics of our sheep online!
There have been many of these sculptures around Yorkshire and around …here are just a few:
