Covid 19

We Are Re-Opening for Gym, Children’s Classes and Single Household Activities From Monday 12th April

06/04/2021 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We were so pleased to hear the Prime Minister announce yesterday that we are on track to reopen next week on Monday 12th April for selected activities. You can find specific information about different sessions listed below.

Gym

From Monday we are able to open the Gyms again with limited capacity and restrictions in place. As before, booking in advance via our website will be essential, and numbers will be limited to 6 people in the main gym and 2 people in the cardio room at a time. When you arrive, please wear your mask and use the provided hand gel. You will now need to check in at the main reception and you can access the gym via the new link corridor. Gym sessions are bookable 3 days in advance, so the first day you will be able to book will be Friday 9th April.

Children’s Classes

We’re delighted to be able to welcome our children’s classes back week commencing Monday 12th April. This means that Little Leopards Baby Massage can resume in person sessions from Thursday 15th April and KarateZone from Friday 23rd April. Rachel will be in touch with her Skating Lesson students to confirm when classes will resume.

Private Hire Skating/Badminton/Table Tennis etc.

We are also able to open for Single Household Activities indoors from 12th April. This means that you can hire our Cafe/Studio space, 1/3 of the hall or 2/3 of the hall for badminton, skating, ride on toys or whatever you like really! These sessions are bookable now, so you can find them on our website. So why not hire the hall for a private skate disco with the kids? Or thrash your partner at Badminton?

Adult Classes

We are not able to resume adult classes at the present time. We are working towards the government’s date of Monday 17th May for adult classes to re-start. Please watch this space, and rest assured that we are as keen to get them restarted as you are!

Keeping You Safe

Before you attend the centre, please make sure you have familiarised yourself with the restrictions we have in place to keep everyone safe. One of our fantastic volunteers Mick, has made this short video to explain what to expect when you arrive.

We Have Been Reported to BMBC.

A concerned member of the public has contacted Barnsley Council to say that we are open during lockdown and that they have seen lots of people coming and going at the centre. We would just like to reassure everyone that we are only open for allowable activities. The Centre is open for NHS Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Disability Sports, both of which have been exempted from lockdown restrictions as they provide an essential service for health. These activities have been subject to risk assessments and everything is in place to make them as safe as possible.

So, if you see people entering the Leisure Centre wearing sports clothing, it is because they are attending allowable activities. We have taken Corona Virus restrictions very seriously since the beginning of 2020, and have done everything we can to ensure that we keep the people attending the centre as safe as we possibly can.

We are still CLOSED for Classes, Gym and Skating until further notice.

Feeling Isolated? Join Our Walking Buddies Scheme!

21/01/2021 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We know that there are a lot of people out there who are feeling very isolated by the lockdown at the moment, and have been thinking about what we can do to help! The lack of social contact is getting to us all, but it must be particularly tough for those who live alone, or are far from their families.

Current lockdown rules mean that you are allowed to meet one other person within your local area for some exercise. We know that there are a lot of people who are in the same boat, who might just benefit from some fresh air, a chat and some exercise.

So, if you would be interested in being paired up with someone else locally to meet for a walk and a chat, then add your details to the form below. We’ll then contact you when there is a suitable match and give you each others details to arrange a walk.

This service of connecting people is being provided by us at here at Penistone Leisure Centre, but we aren’t able to offer a walk leader or anything more due to current restrictions, so it should be noted that you are responsible for your own safety whilst meeting your walk buddy. Social distancing MUST be maintained at all times, and you should not attend arranged walks if you are displaying any of the symptoms of Covid-19.

It’s also advisable to agree a route/time before you go to meet up and tell someone else your planned route. Always carry a mobile phone, and wear warm and suitable clothing.

To join the scheme, please add your details to the form below and we’ll be in touch!

Walking Buddies Scheme

  • I understand that my details will be passed to another local person for the purpose of arranging a socially distanced walk together as per the scheme mentioned above, and that I will also receive their details too.
I understand that when I meet up with my walking buddy, I am responsible for my own safety and that it is my own responsibility to adhere to Covid guidelines at all times.
I understand that I can ask for my details to be removed from the database at any point by emailing data@penistoneleisurecentre.org.uk

We’ve Had High Demand For Private Hire Sessions!

03/01/2021 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

Unsurprisingly, we’ve had really high demand for single household private hire sessions at the centre, as it’s one of the few activities you can still do under current tier 3 rules.

As part of our big refurbishment, we installed a dividing curtains into the main hall which allows us to split the hall into 2/3 or 1/3 sections.

In order to allow for more families to make the most of these sessions, we are now hiring the hall out as 2/3 of the hall or 1/3 of the hall. In normal times, our hall holds up to 50 skaters at a time, so the 1/3 or 2/3 sections are still plenty of room for playing on skates/scooters/ride on toys/remote control vehicles etc and you will still be in your own private space. We also have the smaller side room (Cafe/Studio) available to hire which is ideal for beginner skaters (11x6m room), as it has rubber flooring which is a nice slow surface to learn to skate on.

We are aware that we could soon be put into tier 4 restrictions, so would just like to reassure you that in that scenario, bookings would be rescheduled for a later date.

2/3 of the hall is also available to be hired for badminton session too, or you can book table tennis in the cafe too!

If your children aren’t back to school straight away, why not have a look if there’s a daytime session available to book? We have various times/days through the week available for private hire. Evenings are also available for private hire as long as we aren’t allowed to run our usual schedule of exercise classes.

Please make sure you book your sessions in advance, and are aware that they are for single households only, or single households plus bubble.
