Proud of our centre and proud of our volunteers

19/11/2018 by Beverley Addy Leave a Comment

There was a whole evening of celebrating great individuals and great projects across the Barnsley district on Friday (Nov 16) and Penistone Leisure Centre was part of it.

Volunteers and a trustee attended the Barnsley Chronicle’s Proud of Barnsley Awards, to celebrate the centre’s nomination in the Community Group of the Year Award.

The centre was up against two other great projects in the community group category shortlist which was won by Barnsley Gymnastics Club.

But we are always proud of our centre and especially proud of our volunteers who keep all our activities running smoothly and it was great recognition of your efforts to be nominated this year.

We would have loved to take you all to the event to celebrate your hard work, but with only four tickets and two days to select volunteers to go, it was Cheryl Shaw-Morfitt, gym volunteer, voluntary gym instructor Kostas Viazis and Steph Hill, skating volunteer, that represented our superb volunteers, with trustee Amanda James, to represent our voluntary board.

They’re pictured at the event with one of the hosts, Radio DJ Stephanie Hirst, and with Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Steve Green.

Full details of the awards can be found on the Barnsley Chronicle website
