The refurbishment work is rumbling along at Penistone Leisure Centre!
This photo shows the old kitchen space and what was the ladies toilets! The wall between the two rooms has been removed, and the old serving hatch between what was the kitchen and party room has been bricked up (on the left of the picture!)

The builder in the picture is cutting the new serving hatch window through from what will be the new commercial kitchen into the cafe area (what is currently the weights room!) The red plastic sheet will be where the door through to the cafe is.

Here is the start of the new wall, which will separate the kitchen from the new waiting area. Our next steps are to plan the kitchen layout so that the plumbers and electricians can put fittings in the right places.
We’re looking forwards to being able to provide snacks/light lunches/meals in the cafe space, but we need to know what you’d like us to serve! Look out for the cafe survey we’ll be releasing soon, to give us your opinion.
The renovations face big hold-ups now though, as our builders are struggling to source certain materials – primarily plaster and plasterboards! So if anyone has a secret stash or ‘connections’ they wish to share- we’d be ever so grateful!
We must acknowledge EPIP (East Peak Innovation Partnership) and Section 106 funding from BMBC who have funded this work. Without them, the renovation of the centre would not have been possible!

Work is progressing in other areas of the centre too, but we’ll save that for another post!
