About Penistone Skate School
Have you seen other people doing tricks and wondered how they do it? Or have you struggled to get going and want a bit of help? Do you want to skate faster and more confidently? Lessons will take you from where you are to somewhere better, with a lot of fun on the way.
Penistone Skate School is run by Rachel, who is a qualified ICP instructor with 6 years’ experience of teaching skating.
The next block of 6 lessons will be shown in the calendar, if you follow the links to the booking forms below. They roughly follow half terms so you might need to go forward a month or two to find the next one. They are on Sunday evenings, starting from 5pm. There are also some 2hr holiday sessions in some holidays – ‘Learn to skate’ or ‘Skating Skills’.
If there are no spaces in the class at your level, scroll down to the waiting list and fill in your name so we can contact you when there is space.
About the classes
Note that lessons are for INLINE skates, ones with wheels down the middle. They feel less stable to start with, but once you get going they are more manoeuvrable and easier to learn new skills in.
Classes are for children aged 5 and over, and adults – a lot of families learn together. There are up to 10 people in adult classes, and 16 in the others. Numbers are kept low, so everyone gets enough attention and can improve. You can book a block of six 1 hour lessons, or a one off session in the holidays.
- The beginner class is for people who haven’t skated at all, or who have tried but found it difficult to get going. You will learn to skate confidently, turn and fall over safely.
- The intermediate class is for people who can skate confidently around the room already, but want to learn how to go backwards, do ‘lemons’, stop and do faster skating.
- The advanced class is for people who want to jump, turn tightly and learn some more impressive looking stops and transitions from forwards to backwards.
We play games at all levels to have fun, and also to practice skills without thinking about them too much!
Adult skating classes
Do you (and maybe some friends) want to try something different?
We also run adult skating classes, where you can learn without the distraction of children. These are run in six week blocks when there is enough demand, so if you are interested please fill your name in on the waiting list.
In these classes, everyone works at their own pace. You can spend the 6 weeks making slow and cautious progress, and when you are ready, we can teach you new skills.
