Its been a very busy few days at the centre! Lots of progress and things really feel like they’re moving on now…
Parker Maythorn are finishing off on the warm roof on the new gym room! This along with the new LED lighting in the hall are the last of the works paid for by Blackstone Edge Community Wind Farm Fund/ SYCF. These energy efficiency works will cut our bills, and are better for the planet, so win/win!
Damp2Dry have been sorting out a recurring area of dry rot in the main hall floor. Which should hopefully safeguard the rest of the floor!
JSD Construction have been making major progress on the their big task- our main refurbishment! They have nearly completed works on turning the back room into the gym now. They have been busy forming doorways and making ready to remove the roller shutters on the back, which will be replaced by windows on Saturday!
The builders are also busy in what was the gents toilets area of the centre, which they are busy turning into a skate store and installing a corridor and and windows into the main hall. These works are being made possible by grants from EPIP (funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development) and Section 106 money from BMBC. We have more smaller grants for later parts of the project – a full list on our thanks page.
The centre remains open during refurbishment works, and care is being taken to ensure as little disruption as possible. But please take notice of signs/notices etc, or follow staff/volunteers directions to access the centre safely.
