We Are Re-Opening for Gym, Children’s Classes and Single Household Activities From Monday 12th April

April 6, 2021 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We were so pleased to hear the Prime Minister announce yesterday that we are on track to reopen next week on Monday 12th April for selected activities. You can find specific information about different sessions listed below.

Gym

From Monday we are able to open the Gyms again with limited capacity and restrictions in place. As before, booking in advance via our website will be essential, and numbers will be limited to 6 people in the main gym and 2 people in the cardio room at a time. When you arrive, please wear your mask and use the provided hand gel. You will now need to check in at the main reception and you can access the gym via the new link corridor. Gym sessions are bookable 3 days in advance, so the first day you will be able to book will be Friday 9th April.

Children’s Classes

We’re delighted to be able to welcome our children’s classes back week commencing Monday 12th April. This means that Little Leopards Baby Massage can resume in person sessions from Thursday 15th April and KarateZone from Friday 23rd April. Rachel will be in touch with her Skating Lesson students to confirm when classes will resume.

Private Hire Skating/Badminton/Table Tennis etc.

We are also able to open for Single Household Activities indoors from 12th April. This means that you can hire our Cafe/Studio space, 1/3 of the hall or 2/3 of the hall for badminton, skating, ride on toys or whatever you like really! These sessions are bookable now, so you can find them on our website. So why not hire the hall for a private skate disco with the kids? Or thrash your partner at Badminton?

Adult Classes

We are not able to resume adult classes at the present time. We are working towards the government’s date of Monday 17th May for adult classes to re-start. Please watch this space, and rest assured that we are as keen to get them restarted as you are!

Keeping You Safe

Before you attend the centre, please make sure you have familiarised yourself with the restrictions we have in place to keep everyone safe. One of our fantastic volunteers Mick, has made this short video to explain what to expect when you arrive.

Massive Thank You to Our Maintenance Volunteers!

March 31, 2021 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We had a volunteer day on Sunday last weekend to get the centre ready for partial reopening for some things from the 12th April. We had a fantastic turnout and achieved a lot of ‘finishing off jobs’ (working on our own little areas in order to maintain social distancing of course…)

One of our volunteers took it a step further… Check out Liz looking glam in her super safe haz-mat suit! Just kidding- she was using a resin paint to seal the Studio/Cafe’s floor!

We also have regular maintenance volunteers who do jobs weekly to upkeep and maintain the centre and grounds. We are so grateful to these brilliant people who give their time to help us make the Leisure Centre a lovely place to be!

If you’d like to join the team, and are handy with a paintbrush or more, we’ll be holding another volunteer day on Sunday 11th April to finish some more jobs off before reopening! Please email [email protected] for more info.

Board Games Café Survey!

March 17, 2021 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

We had a brilliant response to our post a couple of weeks ago about running a board games café at Penistone Leisure Centre, so we’ve put together a survey to just make sure we get the sessions/days/times/games right!

If you would be interested in coming along to our board games café, please fill in the survey to tell us what you think, and share it with anyone else you think may come along!

You can find out more about the Board Games Cafe here. If anyone has suggestions for a name for the sessions that would be great too! There are loads of brill ideas but lots are already taken- Snakes and Lattes etc!

Board Games Cafe

Tell us what you'd like from our board games cafe!
You don't have to answer this question if you don't want to, but we would just like to assess whether people of different ages would like sessions at different times.
You can select more than one option if you think it would suit you to use different times.
Please let us know what your preference in games is- this will help us to decide which games to prioritise buying. Again, please feel free to select multiple options if you feel more than one of these will apply to you.
We intend to make this a friendly and welcoming place that people feel comfortable to come along with friends or on their own. Please let us know who you think you'll come with.
We anticipate charging 50% of the cost for kids aged 5-16, and under 5s are free. We anticipate a family entry would cost the same as two paying adults. The centre is run by the charity Sporting Penistone and is run 'by the community, for the community'. Profits from sessions go back in to improving the centre's facilities and putting on sessions for the community.
  • Please use this box to tell us any ideas or suggestions you have for us about the board games cafe. If you are interested in volunteering to help run the board games cafe, please do let us know!
We need your opinions to help guide our decisions at your community run leisure centre! We promise we won't email very often, and we will never share your details with other groups/services.
  • I consent for my information to be stored for the purpose of research for the board games cafe. I understand that I can request my details be removed from the database at any time, by emailing [email protected]

Covid- Secure for Re-Opening!

March 15, 2021 by Frances Greenwood 1 Comment

As we move towards the dates that the Government have proposed for easing lockdowns, we are thinking about welcoming more of you back to Penistone Leisure Centre.

Of course, we aren’t out of the woods yet, so we mustn’t forget to keep adhering to the Government Guidelines until we are told otherwise.

One of our fantastic volunteers Mick, has put together this short video about what to expect when you attend Penistone Leisure Centre, so please take a few minutes to give it a watch and familiarise yourself with the information ready for when we are able to reopen to the public and welcome you all back.

Hands Up If You Love Board Games?!

March 2, 2021 by Frances Greenwood 3 Comments

We’re hoping to start a board games Café when restrictions allow and we’d love to hear from you about what games you would like to see here at PLC!

Not sure what a Board Game Café is?! It’s a social place to come together and play! Board Games are a fantastic leveller, they bring people together and they are a fun way to spend time with others. Basically, we’ll have a large number of board games available to play and a friendly environment with drinks and snacks available to order. Come with your family, come with your friends, come alone- there will be a friendly welcome!

There will be a small charge to play which covers the costs of new games, and will allow us to keep a fresh range of games available! If there’s a game you particularly enjoy, you may even be able to rent it to take home, subject to availability!

We’re going to need Games Gurus to help us plan and run a brilliant Board Games Café! Are board games your thing? We will need volunteer Game Gurus to help people choose games to play and help them get started playing! We’d love to hear from you if you’d like to get involved!

Also, we are happy to accept donations of complete, good quality board games if anyone is having a lockdown clear-out! Board games can be dropped off during out opening times.
