In South Yorkshire we go in to tier 3 CoronaVirus restrictions as of 02.12.20, which means our Gym is able to reopen and single household activities (or single support bubble) are allowed to resume. Sadly we aren’t able to open for our usual timetable of classes.
We have made a few changes to the gym booking systems in order to streamline the process around inductions etc and to allow for monthly/weekly passes.
SO, to book a session at our gym, you must first become a member. This does not cost anything, it just allows us to make sure that you have had an induction with a gym instructor and that you have completed a PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire). PAR-Qs are done annually, so your membership will prompt you to complete a new one when yours expires.
If you have had an induction since August, your gym membership will have been automatically added. If not, you will need to click ‘join the gym’ and tick whether you have had an induction at Penistone Leisure Centre or not. If you tick that you have, our instructors will check we have a record of this and then grant you access. If you haven’t had an induction our instructors will arrange to invite you in at a convenient time for an induction.
Once you are a gym member, you will have access to be able to book in to the Main Gym or Cardio room, and will be able to book individual sessions, or weekly/monthly passes. The weekly/monthly passes allow you to pay once, and then have free access to book any sessions within that week/month (but please note, all sessions must still be pre-booked due to limits on numbers and track/trace requirements).
Sessions are now in hour long blocks. This is to make sure we can offer space to as many people as possible. Sessions are bookable a maximum of 3 days in advance. Weekly passes are Monday to Sunday, and are bookable in advance for the following week. Monthly passes are bookable in advance or up to the 1st of the month (i.e. you will be able to book a monthly pass for January any time in December and up to 1st Jan). Unfortunately we aren’t able to issue weekly/monthly passes mid way through a week/month due to limitations of our booking software.
We have reduced the cost of a December monthly pass to £11, due to the fact that we are closed from 24.12.20-4.01.21 for the Christmas break. If you would like to book a monthly pass at this reduced rate for December, it must be booked by midnight TODAY.
If you have any questions about the new gym booking system, please email [email protected] or phone the centre on 01226 763949 tonight (Tuesday 1st Dec) between 6-8pm.
We are also able to offer Badminton, Table Tennis and Skating to single households or single support bubbles. We have increased availability for these private hire slots, as we are currently unable to run our classes in the evenings as usual. Please check out the private hire page to book your session. Our strict CoronaVirus precautions remain in place. Please arrive at the centre wearing your mask (unless you are exempt from wearing one) and sanitise your hands. All sessions must be pre-booked via our website – strictly no walk-ins.
Looking at buying a voucher for 4 adults in the same household. If still under tier three in the new year can they use the voucher to book a bubble skate. Does the room hire include skate hire or is this extra please? Trying to determine how much to spend on a voucher. Thanks
Hi Kerry,
4 Adults from the same household could have a private hire skating session for £10/hr which includes skate hire, so a £10 voucher would cover it. If you want them to be able to use it at a public skating session, it’s £3 per skater, so you could buy a family ticket for £12 (it doesn’t matter if it’s adults or children using the ticket, as they all cost £3). This is a financial voucher, so they could still use it for a £10 room hire and leave a balance of £2 to knock off a future session if public sessions aren’t able to run after Christmas (vouchers don’t need to be spent all in one go, and remain on the account for 365 days from date of issue).
Hope that helps! 🙂
Fran
Hi I’m just wondering how much skating is and when it is now on please? Many thanks.
Hi there,
We can currently only have single household/bubble private hire sessions. It is £10 for up to 4 people and £15 for larger households / bubbles.
Unfortunately we have a glitch on the website at the moment where you can’t see the booking times unless you are logged in. We are trying to sort this out, but in the meantime you can register / log in at
My Account and you will then be able to see the times and book. There are varying times on different days.
Hi Thankyou I’ll have a look into it now x
