Annual hill race – challenges, fun and fundraising

October 2, 2018 by Beverley Addy Leave a Comment

A big thank you to Penistone Footpath Runners for holding their annual Penistone Hill Race at the weekend (Sunday, September 30)  to raise funds for the leisure centre.

And thanks to all those who helped out on the day to keep things moving smoothly.

Nikki, Leisure Centre deputy administrator was there helping on the day and said: “The number of pre entries this year doubled from last year and it was one of the best turn outs so far.

“The day itself ran so smoothly. Shaun Dimlow, the main co-ordinator from the Footpath Runners, was super organised and everybody did their bit to make it a success. It was a great day.”

Eighty-five runners took part and a new course record time of 40:15 set by Tom Saville, of Dark Peak Fell Runners. First female runner over the line was Laura Gill in 53:34.

In the team races – the first men’s team was Penistone’s own with Scott Hinchliffe in 2nd place, Gareth Cooke in 4th and Dan Limb in 14th. The first women’s team over the line was also Penistone’s with the first three women’s places – Laura Gill, Julie Darigala and Becky Timms.
