An Update on Our Appeal for Help…

21/03/2019 by Frances Greenwood Leave a Comment

… So, a lot has happened since our initial appeal for help to find the £7080 we needed for the emergency repairs to the leaking and dangerous sky-light in our roof!

This amount initially included VAT at 20% (cost of works was £5,900 + 20% VAT= £7080). We have since discovered we should be able to pay VAT at 5% instead, because we are a charity and because it’s an energy saving measure (as we’ll be adding insulation too!) This decreases the amount we need to raise to £6195 (including the 5% VAT).

Our Crowd-Funding Page has already raised £745 (correct as of Thursday!), and this morning we were delighted to receive a fat envelope containing £500 in cash from Penistone’s Trunce Runners! You are an amazing bunch- thank you so much!!

We have looked in to ways to reduce the cost of the the actual work, such as buying cheaper tiles etc, but having taken advice from our project manager and from the roofers, we have decided to go ahead with the second hand welsh slate, which means it won’t look out of place with the rest of the roof. This is still a much cheaper option than replacing the roof-light with another one.

We owe a massive ‘thank you!’ to our roofers Parker Maythorn Ltd. Gerald and Jamie have been absolutely brilliant and on hand with advice and help when we’ve needed it. They have already done several other smaller jobs that they have found when they got onto the roof, for free.

There is bound to be more rain on the way soon, and we can’t expect Parker Maythorn to leave their scaffolding up for a long time when they need to get on with their other work, so we need to decide whether we can afford the repair by Monday. If the scaffolding comes down, then we would need to fund-raise additional money to pay for the scaffolding to go back up again later to complete the works, so we are very keen to come up with the money by then! So we are still desperate for your support!

Can you help us? Every little helps- even a small amount will add up. Please SHARE this post to help us get word out…

If you believe that there should be access to sports facilities in every community, then show your support and help us to get to our goal!

We need to get rid of these buckets!
