- 11th November

We’ll be playing music from the 70s, 80s and 90s for a retro feel and selling pop and crisps in the tuck shop. The price is staying at only £3, no need to book.
About the Skating Sessions
£2 Adult or Child (includes skates) in all sessions except Friday night, which costs £3. Spectators are free.
We run a tuck shop during skating sessions with hot and cold drinks and snacks. The party room becomes a café area where you can sit and rest for a while.
No need to book. We do have a safety limit of 50 skaters in a session (20 in the fast session) but the last time this was reached was on a Saturday in January 2016. After that, we introduced Sunday skating as well and we have not reached the limit since.
Roller skating sessions are run by volunteers. We always need more help, especially in the holidays. Please get in touch if you could sign people in, hand out skates or run the tuck shop every now and again.
This should help you choose the best session to come to:
As the name suggests, for families! A calmer, slower session, usually with younger children or slower skaters and their parents (who are welcome to skate too). We get out the ‘beginner mats’, which provide a safe place for people to learn to skate. All children need to be accompanied by an adult.
Disco skate (Years 7-10)
A session for everyone in School Years 7-10*. We have loud music (you can bring your own and we’ll put it on) and disco lights, snacks and drinks and space to hang out with your friends when you’re not skating. Beginners are welcome as well, you can try out skating with your friends.
Adults don’t usually stay, but a parent/guardian needs to fill in a Contact Form with emergency details – either print it and bring it along or get one from reception to bring back next time. You will then be issued with a membership card you can show at future sessions so we know we’ve got your contact details.
For school year 2017/2018 this is children with birthdays between 01/09/2002 and 31/08/2006.
There are currently only occasional fast sessions as we have not found a regular weekly time that suits people – let us know in the comments at the bottom if you would like to see one. This session is for people of any age who can skate around confidently and would like space to practice their skills. You don’t have to be able to do tricks or anything fancy, but there are often people around to give tips and advice if you want them. Ask one of the skating volunteers in another session if you are not sure if ‘fast skaters’ is for you. Note that numbers in this session are kept below 20, as more space is needed for people who are moving faster!
These sessions are for everyone. Depending on who turns up and their abilities, we might get out the beginner mats or the cones, play a game at the end, put on the disco lights or just have a straight skating session. We take requests! People of all ages are welcome, from toddlers to teens to adults. Everyone is expected to be aware that there are people of different abilities skating together and to take care.
We have skating lessons in blocks of 6 weeks on Saturdays 9:15-10:15am for beginners, Sundays 6-7pm for intermediate, Saturdays 10:30-11:30am for advanced skaters and Thursdays 8:15-9:15pm for adults only. There are also taster sessions in the holidays. For more details please look on our Skating Lessons page.
You can hire Penistone Leisure Centre for your own skating party as well. The hall, party room, kitchen, skates, disco lights and beginner mats are all included.
We can do Birthdays, school events, youth and scout groups or any celebration for any age. And you don’t have to skate – you can bring your own footballs, bouncy castle, entertainer or even zorbing balls.
Please see our Party page for more details.
